The rise and fall of HM Ershad

In 1982, Ershad usurped state power as Chief Martial Law Administrator by removing Abdus Sattar-led government through a bloodless coup, and 3 days later he installed Justice Abul Fazl Mohammad Ahsanuddin Chowdhury as President. Ershad assumed country’s Presidency in 1983. Following a nationwide mass movement, he was finally forced to step down in 1990.
