Child murder, rape, and mob violence raise new security concerns in Bangladesh
Recent cases of child murder, rape, and mob violence are raising fresh concerns about public safety in Bangladesh.
In the capital’s Pallabi area, eight-year-old Ramisa Akter from Popular Model High School was known for her excellent academic performance. Her trophies, awarded by the school for outstanding results, still remain displayed at home -- but Ramisa is no longer there.
According to the police’s preliminary findings, Ramisa was brutally murdered after being raped. The main suspect, Sohel Rana, has already given a confessional statement before the court admitting involvement in the crime.
The incident has sparked outrage and renewed fears about growing insecurity, especially regarding the safety of children and vulnerable citizens across the country.
