10 trucks of toxic bananas destroyed

A mobile court yesterday seized 10 trucks of toxic bananas from Pabna markets and destroyed them. Additional District Magistrate Imam Uddin Kabir led the drive with the help of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab). Witnesses said, the mobile court raided different markets in Pabna Sadar upazila in the afternoon and seized at least 10 trucks of bananas ripened with toxic chemicals. Later the recovered bananas were destroyed on Abdul Hamid Road in front of Tarash building. During the drive, the court also arrested banana traders Abdul Awal and Forkan Ali. “Some unscrupulous traders use toxic chemicals to ripen banana which is very harmful for health. We have warned the traders several times to avoid use of chemicals in fruits. As some traders did not pay heed to our warning, we were compelled to start the drive,” the ADM said.
