Leaflets, posters by PBCP in Sirajganj
Outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) distributed hundreds of leaflets and pasted posters at different places in nine upazilas of Sirajganj district on Tuesday night, creating panic among the locals.
"The Awami League has cheated people in the name of bringing change in the country. Before the election, they promised for a change and a digital Bangladesh. But now they have spread acts of criminalism, tender manipulation and looting people's property," read the leaflets.
The outlaws urged people to get united under their party banner to form strong movement against the government.
Police recovered some leaflets and posters from Katagari Hat in Tarash upazila yesterday morning.
“We are trying to find out the groups involved with the incident. We will start drive against the outlaws as soon as possible,” said a high official of district police.
Outlawed PBCP men have taken shelter at different remote places including Jamuna chars and greater Chalon Beel areas in Sirajganj and neighbouring Pabna, Natore and Bogra districts following law enforcers' drive against them in different southern districts including Kushtia.
The outlaws stay as common people or travellers in the daytime and carry out anti-social activities including robbery, murder and abduction at night, local sources said.
During this correspondent's recent visit to different remote villages in Chalan Beel areas under Tarash upazila, local people said, cadres of different outlawed parties like PBCP (M-L), PBCP (Janajuddho), Biplobi Communist Party, New Biplobi Communist Party, Sramajibi Mukti Andolan and Sarbahara Party had earlier went into hiding following several drives by law enforcers.
But recently many outlawed leaders and cadres have returned to their previous dens in the area. Many arrested outlaws are also back to the scene after their release on bail.
A good number of outlaws, who have fled from the southern region following drives by Rab and police, have taken shelter in remote areas of Jamuna chars and Chalan Beel where law enforcers cannot reach easily, villagers said.
They are now staying at different villages of Raiganj, Tarash, Belkuchi, Chowhali, Shahzadpur and Ullapara upazilas of Sirajganj district, Singra, Gurudaspur, Boraigram, Bagatipara, Lalpur and Sadar upazilas in Natore district, Bera, Ataikula, Santhia, Sujanagar, Bhangura, Atghoria and Chatmohor upazilas in Pabna district, Sherpur, Dupchanchia and Nandigram upazilas in Bogra district, sources said.
Outlaws demand big amounts of toll and threaten to kill or abduct if the demand is not met or police is informed, said a few businessmen at Katagari Hat in Tarash upazila yesterday.
