9 hurt as police, villagers clash in Habiganj

Nine people, including six policemen, were injured in a clash between police and villagers over snatching an accused from police at Mirnagar village in Madhabpur upazila Tuesday. Witnesses said, villagers attacked on police and tried to snatch away one Masuk Mia when he was being taken to custody after arrest in a robbery case. Later, a fierce clash ensued between the villagers and police that left six policemen and three villagers injured. Sources said, the three locals were injured as police fired nine shots. The injured policemen are sub-inspector (SI) of Madhabpur police station Alamgir Hossain, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Rashedul Alam Bhuiyan, constables Khaled Mahmud, Alauddin Al Azad, Monirul Islam and Hasan Mashud Parvez. The injured were first admitted to the upazila health complex and later shifted to Sadar hospital. Police later detained 38 people from the village in connection with the incident.
