Dinajpur Textile Institute closed
Dinajpur Textile Institute was yesterday declared closed for an indefinite period in the wake of a violent protest by general students.
The students boycotted their examinations in the morning, took out a procession and vandalised several rooms of the institute as the authorities permitted seven BCL men, who were earlier expelled from the institute, to sit for examinations.
The authorities of the institute expelled the seven students after they severed tendon of the right leg of a fifth year student on the campus on December 19, 2009. The victim, Md Nuruzzaman, is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
The authorities also filed a case with Dinajpur Sadar Police Station against the seven students.
Following yesterday's violent protest, the authorities also suspended all ongoing examinations and asked the students to vacate their dormitories by this (Tuesday) morning, campus sources said.
A large number of police have been deployed in and around the campus to avert any further incident, sources added.
While contacted, acting principal of Dinajpur Textile Institute Md Shahjahan Ali admitted to allowing seven BCL men to sit for examinations by the authorities of the institute. He declined to give details about the authorities decision.
