6 jailed for rape, murder attempt
A court here on Sunday jailed six people in a rape and attempt to murder case.
The court sentenced Al Amin Kazi, 20, to 17 years, M Rais Kazi, 21, to five years, Naeem Kazi, 24, to three years, Doulat Kazi, 37, to three years, Ful Mia, 42, to six years and Nur Mohammad alias Ukiluddin to four years rigorous imprisonment.
All the six convicts hailed from Gholargati village in Mollarhat upazila.
According to the prosecution, the accused stormed into the house of Yusuf Ali Kazi, an army man of the village and tried to violate his married daughter Mukta begum, 22, and abduct her on the night of August 3, 2008.
As her mother Parvin Begum tried to resist them, the attackers cut off her wrist by a sharp weapon and attempted to kill her.
Liakat Ali Sharif, maternal uncle of Mukta Begum, filed a case with Mollarhat police station against the six in this connection.
Police on investigation submitted charge sheet against the accused on November 6, 2008.
After examining the witnesses and records, Additional District and Sessions Judge M Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict.
