Case against journo
An extortion case was filed on Sunday against Kamruzzaman Bachchu, Baufal upazila correspondent for the daily Janakantha. One Julhas filed the case with Patuakhali judicial magistrate.
On receiving the case the court asked the OC of Baufal police station to record an FIR.
Sources said, Julhas is a cadres of BNP and an accused in 11 cases including for extortion.
According to the case, Bachchu demanded Tk 2 lakh from Julhas as illegal toll. Bachchu also took away Tk 624 from Julhas's pocket at about 7:00 pm on February 13 when he returned home from the nearby bazaar.
Earlier, a news item was published in the daily Janakantha in September last on Julhsa's activities. Julhas is on the list of criminals in Baufal, police sources said.
