35 injured in clashes
At least 35 people have been injured in clashes over disputed land in Manikganj and Thakurgaon.
At least 25 people were injured in a bloody clash between two rival groups at remote Alokdia Char in Shibalaya upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Officer-in-Charge of Shibalaya police station Moniruzzaman told UNB that there was a longstanding conflict between two groups - one led by Rashid and another by former UP member Moti - over ownership of land in the char.
As a sequel to the conflict, supporters of Rashid picked up a quarrel with Moti's men as they were catching fish in the char at about 4:00pm. They also vandalised the house of Moti.
Later, the two groups equipped with sticks and sharp weapons attacked each other leaving 25 people injured from both sides.
In Thakurgaon, at least 10 people were injured in a clash over possession of a khas land on Tuesday afternoon at Lahagara village under Baliadangi upazila.
Of the injured, freedom fighter Choitu Mohammad,65, his son Moshirul,35, Bhalomai,32, Akhtara Banu,35, Khem Lal,45, Bhabaram,45, Tobaram, Shing,40, Chandra Shing,28, were admitted to Baliadangi health complex, reports our correspondent.
Police and locals said Choitu had been living beside a pond at the village on a 24-decimal of land.
On Tuesday afternoon, a group of people led by Khem Lal came to cut trees from a place adjacent to Choitu's house.
As the freedom fighter resisted, Khem Lal's men attacked Choitu and his family members. They also set choitu's house on fire.
It sparked a bloody clash which left 10 people from both sides injured.
