Fire breaks out at Gazipur garment factory

Seven fire service units working to control blaze

A fire broke out at a garment factory in the Degir Chala area of Gazipur this afternoon.

The fire broke out at Matrix Garments in Fakir Market around 2:44pm today. According to Fire Service officials, the fire originated on the third floor of the seven-storey building.

Hiron Mia, in-charge of Bhogra Fire Service in Gazipur, told The Daily Star, “Seven units are working to bring the fire under control. More units are on their way.”

He said the Fire Service received information about the fire at 2:45pm and reached the scene around 3:00pm.

Three units from Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Station, one from Konabari Fire Station, three from Gazipur Fire Station and two from Rajendrapur Fire Station were dispatched to the scene.

Of these, seven units are currently working to bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not immediately be ascertained. Further details will be available later.
