Bangladesh provides emergency medical assistance to Iran
Bangladesh has provided emergency medicines for the people of Iran as part of solidarity and humanitarian aid in the context of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Secretary General Dr Kabir M Ashraf Alam handed over the medicines to the Iranian Ambassador to Dhaka, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, at the Iranian embassy today.
Bangladesh Foreign Ministry Secretary (Bilateral) Nazrul Islam and Director General of the West Asia Wing Humayun Kabir were present.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman provided a grant of Tk 1 crore to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society on April 6 for the purchase of emergency medicines and medical equipment for injured people in Iran.
During the ceremony, Nazrul Islam expressed deep concern and sorrow over the extensive loss of life and property damage in the Middle East conflict. He stated that Bangladesh always stands for peace, expressing hope that the crisis would be resolved peacefully through diplomatic efforts and that lasting peace would be established in the region.
He also noted that there is currently a ceasefire in place in the conflict that began on February 28 following US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
While receiving the aid, Iranian Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the humanitarian initiative. He highlighted the deep and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Iran and thanked the people of Bangladesh for their sympathy and support during this difficult time.
Dr Kabir M Ashraf said the Red Crescent works for oppressed people around the world. He added that participating in humanitarian aid for the people of Iran during wartime is part of their responsibility.
