2 men sentenced to life for raping woman, mother

A Feni court yesterday sentenced two men to life imprisonment and another to 10 years in prison for raping a woman and her mother in Daganbhuiyan upazila in 2018.

Judge ANM Morshed Khan of the Feni Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict, said Public Prosecutor Shahabuddin Ahmed.

The convicts are Saiful Islam, Md Azad, and Nipu Kumar Das.

Azad and Nipu were present in court when the verdict was delivered; Saiful remained absconding.

According to the prosecution, on the night of August 8, 2018, Saiful, along with his associates, broke into the house of the woman and raped her. When the victim’s mother tried to intervene, Azad and Nipu allegedly dragged her out of the house to a nearby bridge and raped her there.

The woman, whose husband works overseas, filed a case with Daganbhuiyan Police Station on August 11, 2018, accusing the three men.

SI Abdur Rahim of Daganbhuiyan Police Station submitted the charge sheet to the court on January 20, 2019.

After examining seven witnesses and other evidence, the court delivered the verdict, the public prosecutor added.
