8 more die of dengue, 1,733 get hospitalised
At least eight dengue patients died in the 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, the second-highest single-day death toll from the disease this year, while 1,733 new cases were reported, the highest daily tally so far.
The latest fatalities have brought the number of dengue deaths in the country to 157 this year, while the new cases raised the total number of infections to 53,570, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new deaths, three each were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation and Chattogram division, while one each was recorded in Mymensingh and Dhaka North City Corporation.
Of the total deaths recorded this year, 63.6 percent were men and 36.4 percent were women.
Earlier on September 8, Bangladesh recorded its highest number of dengue deaths in a single day this year, with nine people succumbing to the mosquito-borne disease.
The previous highest daily tally of dengue cases was recorded on the same day, with 1,571 patients being hospitalised across the country.
