Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today said it foiled an alleged attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push nine people, including women and children, into Bangladesh through the Sapahar border in Naogaon.

Following BGB's intervention, the group remained stranded at the border's zero line, according to a press release issued by Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB).

The release said BSF personnel from the Ellenpur camp allegedly attempted to push the nine individuals -- three men, three women and three children -- into Bangladesh around 4:00am through border pillar 244/MP under the Adatala border in Sapahar.

After receiving information, a patrol team from Adatala BOP rushed to the spot and prevented the group's entry into Bangladesh, the release said.

Additional BGB personnel have since been deployed to the area, and surveillance has been intensified.

Lt Col Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum, commanding officer of 16 BGB, said patrolling had been strengthened to ensure that no illegal entry into Bangladesh would be allowed.

Earlier this month, on June 5 and June 8, BGB reported foiling two similar push-in attempts involving 40 people through the Porsha and Sapahar borders.
