Coats, Rolex boxes and jewellery: ACC lists items at Saifuzzaman’s Gulshan flats

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today inventoried hundreds of clothing items, luxury watch boxes, jewellery and household furnishings during the first day of a court-ordered operation at two Gulshan apartments owned by former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury.

According to ACC's public relations department, officials catalogued 300 coats, 532 ties, eight watch boxes, including four Rolex watch boxes, three sets of pearl jewellery, four chandeliers, a bed, a sofa, and 100 sets of kameez on the opening day of the operation.

The inventory is being prepared as part of the ACC's investigation into Saifuzzaman's alleged illicit wealth.

ACC Deputy Director Md Mashiur Rahman said officials entered the apartments at around 10:30am.

"The operation is being carried out in compliance with a court order. Our team has started preparing an inventory of the belongings in the flats," he said.

The operation follows a July 2, 2026, letter signed by Mashiur stating that the ACC would take control of the two Dhaka apartments under a court order.

The court appointed the director of the ACC's Asset Management Unit as receiver to oversee the properties and authorised entry into the locked flats to prepare the inventory in the absence of the accused. Gulshan Revenue Circle Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Niloy Rahman was appointed executive magistrate to facilitate the process.

The two apartments measure 3,747 square feet and 3,832 square feet, respectively.

Allegations that Saifuzzaman amassed substantial assets abroad surfaced ahead of the 2024 parliamentary election. Following the political changeover after the mass uprising later that year, the ACC launched an inquiry and subsequently filed multiple cases against him over alleged corruption and irregularities.

Saifuzzaman served as state minister for land from 2014 to 2018 and as land minister from 2019 to 2023.
