Man reported missing found dead in Dhanmondi Lake

Police recovered the body of a man from Dhaka's Dhanmondi Lake this morning, with investigators suspecting that he may have died by suicide.

The body of Javed Ahmed, 51, was recovered around 6:30am from beneath the bridge behind Abesh Hotel on Road 10, said police.

Quoting Javed’s wife, Shahana Jabin Khan, Inspector Md Jalal Uddin of Dhanmondi Police Station said he had left home yesterday afternoon, telling his family that he was going to Dhanmondi.

Javed lived in Bashundhara Residential Area, police said.

As he did not return home, his family filed a general diary with Vatara Police Station reporting him missing.

“Locals saw the body floating in the lake and informed police through the national emergency service 999,” Inspector Jalal Uddin said, adding the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.

Police said the circumstances suggested that Javed may have died by suicide, adding that the exact cause of death would be known after the autopsy.
