Bridge authority approves 120 acres land for 55MW solar plant at Jamuna Bridge site

The Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) has approved a proposal to lease 120 acres of land to North-West Power Generation Company Limited for the construction of a 55-megawatt solar power plant at the Jamuna Bridge site.

The decision was taken at the 117th board meeting of the BBA held at Setu Bhaban in Dhaka today, chaired by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, also the chairman of the BBA board, according to a press release.

The board included the solar panel installation proposal as part of the government's green employment initiative and approved a proposal to prepare a master plan for the project, said the release.

The board also decided to revise the existing rehabilitation policy governing flat allocations at a rehabilitation village for families affected by the Dhaka Elevated Expressway project, aiming to better protect the rights of affected families.

It also approved the establishment of a Centre for Bridge Research and Training under the BBA. The centre will conduct research and help professionals develop knowledge and skills related to the construction and maintenance of major infrastructure projects.

Other decisions included restoring an agreement on the operation of BIAM Laboratory School in Diabari, Uttara.

The board also approved replacing the term "annual scholarship" with "annual educational grant assistance" in the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Officers and Employees Welfare Trust Rules, 2010, to clarify the nature of the benefit.

BBA Executive Director and Bridges Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf presented the meeting agenda and an update on the implementation of decisions taken at the previous board meeting.

In the press release, the minister directed the officials concerned to ensure that all decisions were implemented quickly and transparently.
