Summit resumes LNG supply to national grid

Summit LNG Terminal has resumed supplying regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the national gas grid this evening, offering some relief from the severe gas shortage that has disrupted power generation and industrial production.

The terminal began supplying around 110 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) around 6:10pm today, according to a statement from Summit Group.

The company said it expected the supply to gradually increase to around 550 mmcfd by about 2:00am Saturday.

The resumption comes after gas supply from Summit's floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) stopped around 5:00pm on Thursday, when the terminal ran out of LNG.

The shutdown had further tightened gas supplies at a time when the other FSRU at Moheshkhali, operated by Excelerate Energy, has also been operating below its capacity due to a technical fault.

Summit said the increased supply would help improve gas availability for industries, power generation and other consumers, easing some pressure on the country's energy system.

The company said it remained committed to maintaining safe and reliable operations and maximising gas delivery within the technical capacity of the terminal and the national transmission system.
