Govt plans to fill 2,879 public service vacancies within 6 months: State minister

According to updated report based on data as of Dec 31, 2023, there are 468,220 vacant positions across all ministries and govt offices

State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari today said the government plans to fill 2,879 vacant posts in the public service within the next six months.

While responding to a question from Chattogram-13 MP Sarwar Jamal Nizam during question-and-answer session at the parliament, the state minister said the government has formulated short-, medium-, and long-term action plans (6 months, 1 year, and 5 years) to fill vacant positions in the public service.

According to him, recruitment processes will be completed for 2,879 vacant posts within the next six months under the Ministry of Public Administration, 4,459 vacant posts within one year, and 3,110 vacant posts within five years.

He said according to the updated government workforce report based on data as of December 31, 2023, there are 468,220 vacant positions across all ministries and government offices.

The vacancies are distributed as follows: First Class (Grades 1-9): 68,884 posts; Second Class (Grades 10-12): 129,166 posts; Third Class (Grades 13-16): 146,799 posts; Fourth Class (Grades 17-20): 115,235 posts; and other categories (honorary, fixed-salary, and contractual positions that may fall under different classes): 8,136 posts.
