A new political platform 'Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote' with 11 parties that were part of the BNP-led 20-party alliance was formally launched today.

With the BNP out of the equation, the competition was supposed to be between the ruling Awami League and main opposition Jatiya Party.

Jatiya Party’s Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa was reelected  Rangpur mayor while the ruling Awami League candidate, in the fourth position, managed to bag only 8 percent of the vote in the city corporation polls yesterday.
