Hridoy, Saifuddin power Mohammedan to DPL summit
Towhid Hridoy smashed a blistering unbeaten half-century as Mohammedan Sporting Club stormed to the top of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2025-26 table with a crushing nine-wicket win over Agrani Bank Cricket Club at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Hridoy blasted 71 not out off just 24 balls, hammering 10 fours and four sixes. He reached his fifty in only 17 deliveries -- the second-fastest by a Bangladesh batter in List A cricket after Parvez Emon’s 15-ball effort.
Mohammad Naim remained unbeaten on 39 as Mohammedan overcame Agrani Bank’s 133-run target in just 11.3 overs.
Earlier, Mohammad Saifuddin and Mushfik Hasan ripped through the Agrani Bank batting line-up with figures of 4-18 and 4-37 respectively after Mohammedan elected to field.
Mohammedan now have 10 points from six matches, level with Prime Bank Cricket Club, who suffered their first defeat of the season against Abahani. Mohammedan moved top thanks to a superior net run rate of +2.625 compared to Prime Bank’s +0.678.
At BKSP-3, Jaker Ali Anik smashed 133 off 103 balls, striking 10 fours and nine sixes, while Mahidul Islam Ankon added 75 as Abahani posted 341-9 after being sent in to bat.
Prime Bank started well through a 70-run opening stand between Shahadat Hossain Dipu (34) and Azizul Hakim Tamim (30), but lost momentum after the breakthrough and were bundled out for 235 in 45.3 overs. Shamim Hossain top-scored with 51 off 46 balls.
Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby took 3-50, while Rakibul Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain claimed two wickets each as Abahani secured a fourth straight win after losing their opening two matches.
Elsewhere, Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club edged Brothers Union by one run at the ULAB Cricket Ground for their first win of the season.
Legends of Rupganj beat Dhaka Leopards by two runs at BKSP-4 for their fourth victory of the campaign, while Bashundhara Strikers defeated City Club by one wicket at the Bashundhara Sports Complex to bounce back from consecutive defeats.
At the Cricketers Academy, Gazi Group Cricketers snapped a three-match losing streak with a 36-run win over Gulshan Cricket Club.
