India batting stalwart Ajinkya Rahane announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on Thursday. We take a look back at some of his best contributions in the red-ball format for India.

147 vs Australia (Melbourne, 2014)

Rahane walked in with India under pressure and launched a stunning counter-attack against Australia's pace attack.

He scored 147 off just 171 balls, taking on the likes of Mitchell Johnson, Josh Hazlewood and Ryan Harris on a lively MCG pitch.

His 262-run partnership with Virat Kohli completely changed the course of the innings.

Rahane followed it up with another 48 in the second innings that helped India to a draw.

The knock is widely regarded as one of the finest overseas Test centuries by an Indian batter.

188 vs New Zealand (Indore, 2016)

Rahane registered his highest Test score of 188 after India had slipped to 100/3.

He shared a then-record 365-run fourth-wicket partnership with Virat Kohli, completely taking the game away from New Zealand.

His innings combined patience with fluent strokeplay as he batted for over six hours. His 381-ball knock consisted of 18 fours and four sixes.

India went on to post 557/5 declared and wrapped up a convincing victory to seal the series.

103 vs England (Lord's, 2014)

Rahane's resilient century came at a time when India were struggling at 145/7 in the first innings.

He produced a composed century in testing English conditions to guide India to a competitive total of 295.

The innings earned him a coveted place on the Lord's Honours Board.

It proved to be the difference as India went on to record their famous victory at the Home of Cricket.

112 vs Australia (Melbourne, 2020)

Leading India after the Adelaide 36 all out and Virat Kohli not being part of the action, Rahane delivered a captain's innings of the highest quality.

His patient 112 guided India to a crucial 131-run first-innings lead on a challenging MCG surface. The century shifted the momentum of the series and levelled the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

It remains one of the defining knocks in one of India's finest ever overseas Test triumphs.

89 vs Australia, WTC Final (The Oval, 2023)

The right-hand batter returned to the team and played one of his most fluent knocks at The Oval on the grand ICC World Test Championship 2023 Final.

Rahane's resilience in this game was closed out on 89, after a blinder from Cameron Green.

India eventually lost the mace to Australia but Rahane's first-innings brilliance against a fine bowling lineup of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon comes up there as one of his most vital contributions in whites.
