Miraz rested as Robiul earns maiden Test call-up for Zimbabwe tour
Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been rested for the lone Test against Zimbabwe, scheduled to begin on June 28 in Harare, as selectors look to manage workload and assess bench strength in the longer format.
Pace bowler Robiul Haque has earned his maiden Test call-up following impressive performances in first-class cricket. Robiul has taken 107 wickets in 32 matches at an average of 20.90, highlighting his consistency in domestic red-ball cricket. He has also contributed with the bat, scoring 602 runs at 20.75, including two half-centuries.
Chief selector Habibul Bashar said during a press conference today that the team management had discussed the decision with Miraz, who agreed to the break.
“We have Nayeem Hasan, who has had limited opportunities. We want to give him a chance in this series. We spoke with Miraz, and he agreed to take a break,” Bashar said.
In another notable inclusion, top-order batter Towhid Hridoy has retained his place in the Test setup. Hridoy, who received his maiden Test call-up during Bangladesh’s 2024 home series against Sri Lanka, has been rewarded again for his consistent performances.
“His recent form has been excellent, and he has shown strong temperament. We believe he has the technique and patience required for Test cricket. This series against Zimbabwe will be a great opportunity for him to settle into the longer format,” Bashar added.
Meanwhile, pacers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed have returned to the Test side, while fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana have been rested for the tour.
Bangladesh will be led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, with a squad blending experienced campaigners and emerging talent as they prepare for the solitary Test in Harare.
