Tigresses begin Asian Games campaign against China

Bangladesh women’s cricket team will begin their Asian Games 2026 campaign tomorrow against hosts China in the quarterfinals at Korogi Sports Park in Japan.

The Tigresses have featured in three previous editions of the Asian Games, winning two silver medals and one bronze. They made their debut in Guangzhou in 2010 and claimed silver before repeating the feat in Incheon in 2014. Bangladesh then won bronze in Hangzhou in 2022 after defeating Pakistan.

“We completed our first practice session in Japan today. We will play against China tomorrow. I hope we can return home with a medal from this tournament, like the previous time,” Bangladesh batter Sobhana Mostary said ahead of the game.

Bangladesh will advance to the semifinals if the quarterfinal is washed out, owing to their superior T20I ranking. Bangladesh are currently ranked 10th in the world, while China are 36th.

Should Bangladesh reach the semifinals, they could face India on September 20. India will take on Japan in another quarterfinal on Thursday.

In the day’s other quarterfinal, Pakistan will face Thailand, with the winner set to meet either Sri Lanka or Malaysia in the semifinals.

The bronze-medal and gold-medal matches will be played on September 22.
