Star Sports Report

Five more national records were set on the second day of the 38th National Age-group Swimming Championships at the Syed Nazrul Swimming Complex in Mirpur on Sunday, taking the total to 10 in two days.

Two diving records had also been set earlier. All records were registered through hand timing as the venue's electronic timing system remains out of service.

BKSP's Mohammad Toufiq starred with two records in the boys' 13-14 age group. He won the 200m individual medley in 2:26.44, bettering Mithu Mia's 2015 mark of 2:28.99, before setting another record in the 100m butterfly with 1:02.27, surpassing Jahidul Islam's 2013 time of 1:04.17. Niklee Swimming Club's Shamimul Haque finished second in both events.

Shamimul hit back in the 50m freestyle, clocking 26.18 seconds to erase Mohammad Imran's 2022 record of 26.84 seconds. Toufiq settled for silver.

In the girls' 13-14 50m freestyle, Meghna Swimming Club's Fatiha Mahtab Maisha broke a 15-year-old record with 30.21 seconds, eclipsing Nazma Khatun's 30.92 set in 2011.

BKSP's Abdul Azim claimed the fifth record of the day, winning the boys' 15-17 400m individual medley in 5:02.38, improving on Ariful Islam's previous record of 5:07.76.
