Government reduces excise duty to Tk 150 on bank deposits between Tk 1 lakh and Tk 5 lakh, but keeps proposed rates for big ticket account balances.

Finance minister AMA Muhith hints that the government may withdraw the proposed additional excise duty on bank deposit in the fiscal 2017-18. Amid widespread criticism and repeated demand for withdrawal the excise duty, the minister comes up with the hint while talking to reporters at the cabinet division.
