Bangladesh will likely have to pay an additional $1.07 billion, or about Tk 13,134 crore, in LNG subsidies during the April–June quarter if global prices remain elevated, according to a new study by a US-based international non-profit.

Subsidies for the power sector are likely to balloon 83 percent this fiscal year as the interim government is planning to clear all arrears owed to private power producers.

The ministry of power, energy and mineral resources has sought the undisbursed subsidy at the earliest to continue with uninterrupted electricity supply during the summer months.
