The federation called off its indefinite work abstention and the association withdrew its action programme.

The federation had been pressing for action against vulgar films while the association, a rival group, demanding cancellation of the membership of director Chashi Nazrul Islam and actor Ahmed Sharif from the Censor Board.

Information Minister Tariqul Islam and Information Secretary Mazmul Alam Siddiqi sat with leaders of both the organisations at the FDC at about 2.00pm. FDC Managing Director Washimul Bari Rajib was also present.

At the meeting, the federation and association leaders vowed to fight the vulgar films and video piracy from their respective positions, sources said.

"From now on, all of us will monitor the films from our respective positions. If any film has vulgar scenes, we will report to the information ministry for legal action," said BFF Joint Convenor Chashi Nazrul Islam after the meeting.

The government would also enact laws against video piracy to save the film industry, he added.

BFPDA General Secretary Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Ujjal said, "We have reached a consensus on restoring congenial atmosphere in the film industry."

The government has also assured them that it would take steps to modernise the FDC, he said.

The minister gave the responsibility to Monwar Hossain Dipjal, member secretary of BFF, to settle the dispute between actress Sadeka Pervin Popy and a producer, BFF sources said.

The BFF had launched the movement after the BFPDA 'boycotted' Popy.
