Muggers stabbed a staff of Pabna Mental Hospital and robbed him of Tk 5,000 in the city's Gulistan area yesterday.

The muggers attacked Abdul Majed Ali when he along with his wife Razia Begum was waiting for a Pabna-bound bus at around 5:30pm.

"After dropping a patient who has just recovered at Kanchan in Narayanganj, we were waiting at the bus stand when four youths stabbed my husband in the left hand and took away the money," said Razia.

As she raised an alarm, a policeman rushed there and caught a snatcher, but three others managed to escape with the money.

Majed was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

In another incident, locals caught a mugger with pistol when he pulled it out to open fire during a mugging attempt at Kazipara on Thursday night.

The 19-year-old snatcher, Jahirul Islam Didar, and his accomplices Rifat and Joy attacked a passer-by who raised an alarm.

As locals chased them, Didar pulled out his pistol and pointed it to them. He fired but the bullet hit his right knee. The two others managed to escape.

Didar was admitted to a local clinic but later shifted to the DMCH yesterday noon.
