Spanish police find explosives stashed at blown up flat

Spanish authorities investigating the March 11 train bombings in Madrid have uncovered explosives, bundles of cash and assorted documents in the flat where six suspects blew themselves up Saturday rather than surrender to police, judicial sources said yesterday.

"The terrorists had documents, maps and sufficient material to carry out further attacks, a new March 11, no problem," the sources said without commenting on the nature of the documents or the maps.

Spanish interior ministry sources said the search of the building had been completed.

Police are now trying to find a second safe house where they believe fugitives involved in the bombings or their accomplices may be sheltering, according to Spanish media reports.

Six suspects killed themselves Saturday rather than give themselves up to police who raided the flat which turned up more explosives in the southern Madrid suburb of Leganes.
