One gets death for killing nephew
Judge AR Masud of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4, gave the verdict at a jam-packed courtroom in presence of the convict Noor Hossain.
Noor Hossain is one of the cousins of victim's father.
The tribunal acquitted two others- Zakir Hossain and Mohammad Ali- as the charges brought against them were not proved.
The convict can appeal to the High Court against the verdict in 30 days, the judgement said.
Earlier, the prosecution and the defence completed their arguments and the tribunal recorded statements of 11 out of 15 prosecution witnesses.
In the case filed with Khilgaon Police Station, it was alleged that two paternal uncles and some local hoodlums kidnapped Zahid Alam Palash, 22, an SSC examinee, from his East Rampura residence at about 10:45pm on January 19 in 2002 as he protested their immoral activities in the area. Later, they shot him dead near his residence and fled the scene immediately.
Following the incident, victim's paternal uncle Foyez Ahmed filed a murder case accusing Noor Hossain and three others the same day. The investigation officer of the case pressed charges against Noor Hossain and two others on November 30 in 2002.
The tribunal framed charges against the accused on April 5 last year.
Special Public Prosecutor Harun-or-Rashid Khan appeared for the state while advocates Kamal Uddin Khan and Kazi Shahanara defended the accused.
