A good initiative

Now that the inauguration of the project has taken place we hope that the construction work will begin in real earnest without much ado. On previous occasions we have experienced that projects involving large and complex construction work were unduly delayed resulting in overshooting of the stipulated time-frames. This in turn often caused great public inconvenience due to constricted traffic movement around the extended construction site. More seriously, it also leads to cost escalation resulting in exceeding the approved budget allocations by unaffordable margins. Particular care should also be taken to ensure through continuous supervision and monitoring that the construction works were carried out as per stipulated technical specifications ensuring at the same time safety precautions relating to natural disasters like earthquake etc.

After the inaugural ceremony begins the real work. The government has taken it up at the fag end of its tenure which obliges them to give an expeditious start to the massive flyover construction activity. At no stage of the implementation should the financiers and contractors be bogged down in bureaucratic red-tape. The administration must strike a rational balance between its roles as a facilitator and a regulatory entity.
