150 students fall ill with unknown disease

Local officials said more than 100 students and a teacher of Barovita High School at Tongibari fell sick in classes at about 9:45am.

Thirty of them, including 28 girl students, were rushed to Tongibari Health Complex. They complained of severe pain in chest, abdomen, body and respiratory problem. Of them, nine were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Medical Officer at the Health Complex Golam Kibria said they could not ascertain the cause of the disease. Two medical teams were formed to find out the causes. The Civil Surgeon of Munshiganj visited the patients.

Informed sources said that five students were attacked with the disease on Tuesday.

Authorities declared the school closed for an indefinite period.

Another report from Chuadanga said, at least 30 students of Pilot Girls High School at Jibannagar fell ill of unknown disease yesterday.

Seven of them admitted to Jibannagar Health Complex complained of heart palpitation, respiratory problem and clouded vision.

"It's a kind of virus," said the Medical Officer of the Health Complex and diagnosed 'opsonil and dygisum'.
