Dr Tareq Salahuddin

Dr Tareq Salahuddin is an award-winning journalist who has been the Health Editor of The Daily Star since 2003. He is a physician and public health professional with a strong focus on health systems, development communication, and evidence-based advocacy. He holds an MBBS degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and is engaged in public health practice. Dr Tareq specializes in translating complex medical and public health concepts into accessible, policy-relevant, and community-focused narratives. His professional interests include preventive medicine, health equity, nutrition and food security, climate-linked health risks, and health communication for social and behaviour change. He is an active writer, interviewer, and media contributor, regularly producing health and science content for newspapers, digital platforms, and professional forums. Dr Tareq Salahuddin is a member of the Public Health Association of Bangladesh and a former Member of the Governing Council and Policy Committee of the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA), a J2J Fellow on HIV/AIDS, and a member of the International AIDS Society. He is committed to strengthening the role of credible medical voices in public discourse and advancing informed decision-making in health and development.
