Bangladesh to launch 'sovereign AI' in a year: PM’s adviser
Bangladesh will launch its sovereign AI infrastructure in a year and open it to the private sector, startups and universities to build large language models in Bangla, said Rehan Asad, adviser to the prime minister for telecommunications and ICT.
Sovereign AI is a country's ability to build and run artificial intelligence using its own infrastructure, data, workforce, and computing power rather than relying on foreign technology providers or models.
"Majority of the global tech partnerships are at a mature state. We have secured the sourcing of computing chips,” he said at the AI and Innovation Dialogue, jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government Innovation Unit of the Prime Minister's Office, at the foreign ministry in Dhaka today.
“We will launch our sovereign AI infrastructure within the next 12 months."
"And open that up to the private sector, startups, universities and students to build future LLM models in Bangla and offer innovative services very soon," he added.
