Govt to establish modern meat processing centre in Rajshahi: state minister
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has announced that a modern meat processing centre will be established in Rajshahi to ensure the hygienic production, processing and supply of meat.
Ensuring safe food for consumers remains one of the government's top priorities, he said while addressing a stakeholders' consultation meeting on the construction of a modern slaughterhouse at the Rajshahi City Corporation office today.
The state minister said the proposed meat processing centre will ensure pre-slaughter health checks of animals by registered veterinary doctors.
Animals will be slaughtered following halal procedures in the presence of an imam, in line with religious guidelines, while modern laboratories will be used to verify meat quality and safety.
The state minister added that an environmentally friendly and modern waste management system will be introduced to ensure that no part of the animal goes to waste.
The initiative will also create opportunities to process and export animal by-products, generating foreign exchange earnings, he said.
Additionally, plans will be made to produce biogas and organic fertiliser from animal waste, contributing to environmental conservation and a sustainable economy.
