Three detained for stealing Tk 1 crore from Gazipur factory chairman’s car
The Industrial Police in Gazipur has detained three people, including the personal driver of a Chinese chairman of a garment factory in the district, in connection with the theft of Tk 1 crore kept in the chairman’s car.
Police recovered Tk 97.03 lakh of the stolen money within 48 hours of the incident.
Mohammad Amzad Hossain, police superintendent of Industrial Police-2, Gazipur, PPM-Service, disclosed the information at a press meet held at the conference room of Industrial Police-2 in Gazipur today.
According to police, at around 7pm on September 1, the Chinese chairman of Lavender Fashion, a garment factory in Rajendrapur, stopped for a break in front of Purbachal Cadet Club in Narayanganj while returning to Dhaka from the factory.
At that time, his personal driver, Zahid Hasan, allegedly fled with Tk 1 crore kept in the car for workers’ salaries and other factory expenses.
Later, he sent an apologetic text to the factory owner and went into hiding.
After a case was filed with Rupganj Police Station in Narayanganj, Industrial Police-2 in Gazipur began a parallel investigation.
Police conducted operations in different areas of Dhaka, Gazipur and Jhenaidah and detained Md Zahid Hasan, 30, of Kulbaria village under Harinakundu Police Station in Jhenaidah district, from Jhenaidah Sadar. Police recovered Tk 86 lakh from his residence.
Police also detained his alleged accomplice, Md Aktaruzzaman, 51, of Kanchannagar village under Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station and recovered Tk 1.03 lakh from him.
In addition, Aktaruzzaman’s wife, Nasima Akter, 24, of Palashbari village under Taraganj Police Station in Rangpur, was detained from her residence in Tongi. Police recovered another Tk 10 lakh from her.
Police said Zahid spent around Tk 1.20 lakh of the stolen money on renting a new house, purchasing furniture and buying a new mobile phone for Tk 33,000. The furniture and mobile phone purchased with the stolen money were also recovered during the operation.
Police Superintendent Mohammad Amzad Hossain said, “Industrial Police-2 is always vigilant to protect the industrial and investment environment and prevent industry-related crimes. We were able to conduct the operation swiftly, detain the main accused within 48 hours and recover a large portion of the stolen money.”
The Detective Branch team of Jhenaidah District Police assisted Industrial Police-2, Gazipur, in the operation.
The detained individuals, along with the recovered money and other materials, were handed over to Rupganj Police Station in Narayanganj.
