BRAC Bank joins BB refinancing schemes for green industry and ICT

Star Business Desk

BRAC Bank has entered into participation agreements with Bangladesh Bank to help eligible businesses access affordable financing for green industrial facilities and information and communication technology (ICT) ventures.

The agreements were signed on 24 September 2026 by Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, managing director and CEO of BRAC Bank, and AKM Nurunnabi, director of the Sustainable Finance Department at Bangladesh Bank, on behalf of their respective organisations.

The agreements cover the Refinance Scheme for Green Factory Building and Green Industry and the Refinance Scheme for the Development of ICT Sector, reads a press statement.

The schemes are supported by revolving funds totalling Tk 2,000 crore and offer eligible borrowers financing at an interest rate of up to 5 percent, with tenures ranging from three to ten years.

For manufacturers, the financing can support the construction or upgrading of environmentally sustainable factories and industrial facilities, including projects that meet recognised green-building standards.

The ICT scheme covers eligible activities in areas such as software, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, fintech, data analytics, robotics and healthtech.

Access to lower-cost, longer-term finance can help businesses move forward with investments that might otherwise be difficult to fund.

It can ease the cost of developing greener facilities while giving ICT businesses greater scope to develop technology, expand operations and meet eligible working-capital needs.

Speaking on the agreements, BRAC Bank’s Tareq said, “Bangladesh’s next phase of growth depends on businesses becoming more productive, technology-enabled and environmentally responsible. Through these schemes, we can help eligible clients access affordable capital to make those investments.”

“When businesses can build cleaner facilities and stronger technological capabilities, they become better placed to compete, grow and create opportunities for the country,” he added.

By connecting businesses with these refinancing facilities, BRAC Bank aims to support investment in the industries and technologies shaping Bangladesh’s future growth, according to the press statement.

The agreements add to BRAC Bank’s sustainable finance efforts, it said.

Its Sustainable Finance Help Desks support clients in identifying green investment opportunities and understanding the financing options available to them, it added.
