Prime Bank holds financial literacy seminar at Central Women’s University

Prime Bank PLC yesterday organised a seminar, titled “Financial Inclusion: Engaging & Inspiring Youth in Banking”, under its PrimeAcademia initiative at Central Women’s University (CWU) to raise awareness among students about financial inclusion, financial literacy, responsible money management, career development and women’s financial empowerment.

Organised by the Central Women’s University Business Club, the seminar brought together students, faculty members and banking professionals.

Discussions focused on financial capability, informed decision-making, personal money management and career preparation. Prof Perween Hasan, vice-chancellor of the university, inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest.

She appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of combining academic education with practical financial knowledge and career-related skills. Referring to CWU’s efforts to advance women’s education despite various challenges, she encouraged students to prepare for the changing demands of the workplace.

Shaila Abedin, senior executive vice-president and head of liability and women banking at Prime Bank, said women’s financial inclusion goes beyond access to banking services and is linked to financial independence, confidence, decision-making capacity and leadership development.

Drawing on her professional experience, she said social expectations and workplace barriers often make women’s career advancement more challenging.

She stressed perseverance, continuous learning, ethical conduct and the courage to take responsibility as important qualities for overcoming such challenges.

Shaila also encouraged students to develop financial knowledge alongside academic and professional skills, saying awareness of income, savings and future planning can help women make informed financial decisions.

MM Mahbub Hasan, senior vice-president and head of financial inclusion and school banking at the bank, Elias Ahmed, registrar of CWU, and senior officials from both organisations were also present.
