Teacher sued, suspended in Gaibandha
A teacher of Kholahati Siddiquia Dakhil Madrasa in Sadar upazila was suspended yesterday for allegedly trying to violate a Class V student of the institution on Friday.
Victim's mother Razia Begum, a resident of Kholahati village in the upazila, lodged a complaint accusing the teacher Shariful Islam Safi, 42, with Sadar Police Station the same night.
According to the plaintiff, Safi called her daughter to his house around 12:00noon on Friday, tried to violate her forcibly and shoot obscene videos of the heinous act when none of his family members were present at home.
Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the house and rescued the girl. Safi, however, fled the scene sensing the presence of the villagers.
On information, police went to the spot and took the victim under their custody.
Meanwhile, the managing committee of the madrasa in an emergency meeting yesterday decided to suspend Safi from his service at the institution.
Sub-inspector Shahidul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said police produced the victim before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday noon that recorded her statement.
The victim was handed over to her family member's yesterday afternoon, the SI added.
