Bangladeshi short film ‘To-Let’ competes at Australian festival

Bangladeshi short film “To-Let”, directed by Jubair Shawan, is competing at the 2026 Focus on Ability Short Film Festival in Australia. 

According to a press release from the production house, it is the first film from Bangladesh to compete at the festival.

Established in 2009, the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival aims to challenge perceptions of people with disabilities by highlighting their abilities and experiences through cinema.

Produced by Atopor Shabdayan, “To-Let” adopts an experimental visual treatment to evoke a sense of emptiness while challenging conventional expectations of how stories are presented on screen.

The film follows the hopes and aspirations of a visually impaired person, while also exploring the social attitudes and challenges he encounters in everyday life.

Visually impaired actor Vashkar Bhattacharjee plays the lead role in the film. The cast also includes Hayatuzzaman Khan, Bitta Taskia, Tahzil Hasan and Setara Parvin, among others.

“To-Let” is competing for two awards at the festival: Judges’ Choice – International Short Film, which will be decided by the festival jury, and Most Online Votes – International, which will be determined through public voting.

Oindrila eyes live performances in Australia

The film will be available to watch and vote for on the festival’s website from August 14 to 21. To cast a vote, viewers must provide their name and email address and verify their vote using a code sent to their email.
