Lindsay Lohan teams up with ‘Mean Girls’ director for new Netflix film

Lindsay Lohan is set to return to the romantic comedy genre with Netflix’s upcoming film “Return to You”, which will reunite her with director Mark Waters, who helmed two of her most popular films, “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls”.

Lohan and Henry Golding will star in the romantic feature, with Lohan also serving as a producer. The film will be directed by Waters from a screenplay by Eric Champnella.

Set in 2008, “Return to You” follows Lohan’s character, a successful but lonely attorney who mistakenly receives a heartfelt DVD intended for the husband of a dying woman. Using clues from the recording, she sets out to find the man it was meant for.

Lohan and Brad Krevoy are producing the film, while Olivia Krevoy, Jimmy Townsend and Galen Fletcher are attached as executive producers.

The project marks Lohan’s reunion with Waters after their collaborations on “Freaky Friday” (2003) and “Mean Girls” (2004), two films that helped establish her as a Hollywood star.

Lohan recently reprised her role as Anna Coleman in the 2025 sequel “Freakier Friday”, alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, though the film was directed by Nisha Ganatra.

Waters’ recent work includes Netflix’s romantic comedy “La Dolce Villa” and the upcoming biographical film “Hershey”.

Lohan will next appear in Hulu’s series “Count My Lies”, alongside Shailene Woodley and Kit Harington. Meanwhile, Golding is set to star with Brie Larson and Lily Collins in Amazon MGM Studios’ comedy “Close Personal Friends”.

Speaking in a recent Vogue Arabia interview, Lohan reflected on gaining confidence throughout her career. “With age comes a different kind of confidence,” she said, adding that she now feels more comfortable sharing her thoughts about characters and being involved in the creative process.
