Madhumita Cinema Hall, one of Dhaka’s historic film theatres located in Motijheel, has maintained a strong tradition over the years, celebrating its golden jubilee in 2022. Today, Iftekhar Uddin Noushad, the owner, confirmed that the cinema will close permanently following this year’s Eid screenings. He also shared with The Daily Star that a new multiplex will be built in its place.

In an ambitious move to strengthen the future of Bangladesh’s cinematic landscape, the Bangladesh Film Students’ Association (BFSA) is set to host a National Film Conference at Dhaka University tomorrow. The conference, taking place at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, is set to be a landmark event for over 500 filmmakers, students, educators, and film professionals — all united in their vision for a brighter future for the Bangladeshi film industry.

This year, actor Jaya Ahsan, a familiar face at the festival, made her debut as a panellist, offering her insights ahead of the highly anticipated international premiere of the film adaptation of “Putul Nacher Itikotha” at the Rotterdam International Film Festival on February 6.

When asked about his age, the actor quipped, "I am turning 60 this year, but damn, I look like 30."

The series derives heavily from the Morichjhapi Massacre. It features Tariq Anam Khan as Kazi, Chanchal Chowdhury as Sunil, Mostafizur Noor Imran as Marshal, Tahmina Othoi as Sunita Devi, and Rizvi Riju as Palash. According to the director, Sukorno Shahed Dhiman, all the characters in the series are political. He aimed to narrate the political stories of the Khulna-Sundarbans region. Feu is a manifestation of that vision.

To bring “Noya Manush” closer to the masses, the filmmakers have launched an alternative screening initiative. The journey officially began on December 25 at Dhaka University’s TSC auditorium, followed by screenings at various universities and cultural centres across the country.
