Hannah Einbinder calls for end to Gaza attacks after UN protest arrest

Hannah Einbinder has called on the US government to “bring an end” to Israel’s attacks on Gaza after the “Hacks” star was arrested during a protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s appearance at the United Nations in New York on Thursday.

Einbinder was among several actors and other public figures detained as protesters blocked an intersection outside the UN ahead of Netanyahu’s address to the General Assembly. Susan Sarandon was also arrested during the demonstration.

Following her release, Einbinder addressed the protest and her arrest in a statement posted to Instagram Stories. She said she hoped images of protesters being taken into custody would draw attention to the situation in Gaza and southern Lebanon.

“The US government has the power to bring an end to all of this killing, pillaging, and land theft, yet instead it chooses to welcome the butcher of Gaza with open arms,” she wrote, also criticising both Republicans and Democrats for their positions on the conflict.

“Let us not mistake the spectacle for the story: genocide is the headline, and it is time for it to end,” she added.

The protest was organised by Jewish Voice for Peace and took place as Netanyahu was preparing to address the UN General Assembly. The group said more than 100 people were arrested, while Reuters reported that at least 30 people, including Einbinder and Sarandon, were taken into custody.

Einbinder has previously spoken publicly about the Israel-Palestine conflict. In 2025, she used her Emmy acceptance speech to express support for Palestinians, ending her remarks with “free Palestine”.
