Actors’ Equity takes oaths, vows to ensure security of artistes
The oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected members of Actors' Equity was held yesterday, at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).
Presided over by the Chief Election Commissioner and Eminent actor Khairul Alam Sabuj, the programme was followed by an inaugural ceremony.
The members will serve until 2025. The election, held on January 28, resulted a win for actors Ahsan Habib Nasim and Rownak Hasan as President and General Secretary respectively.
After the elected members took their vows, the other participants were greeted with flowers.
"We are a family, and we want to work together for the improvement of our industry," said Rawnak Hasan.
Veteran artistes, directors, and producers graced the event with their presence. Two veteran actors Afzal Hossain and Masum Aziz, who recently won the Ekushey Padak, were honoured at the ceremony.
Later, different associations bid their good wishes to the newly elected members. These associations are—Television Producers Association, Makeup Artistes Association, Shooting House Association, and Script Writers Association among others.
"We have advanced technologically. For instance, five years ago people who could not watch television projects from outside the country. Now, those productions are available worldwide," said Ahsab Habib Nasim.
"Joining our hands together, we want to ensure the security of our profession," stressed the artiste. He urged everyone to support the cause.
This year, the association had 752 voters who casted their votes. Out of them, 642 votes were qualified while 58 counts were disqualified.
Anisur Rahman Milon, Iqbal Babu and Selim Mahbub secured the positions of Vice President, while Naznin Hasan Chumki and Jamil Hossain became the Joint General Secretary.
Other winners of the elections are-- Sazu Khadem, Organisation Secretary, Muhammad Noor A Alam, Finance Secretary, Sheik Merazul Islam, Office Secretary, Rashed Mamun, Program Secretary, Urmila Srabanti Kar, Law and Welfare Secretary, Pran Roy, Publicity and Publication Secretary, and Sujat Shimul, Information and Technology Secretary.
Ainun Nahar, Tanvir Mashud, Maznun Mizan, Ashraful Ashish, Suchona Sikdar, Shams Sumon and Himey Hafiz have been elected as executive panel members.
