‘Dhaka 86’ director Shafiqur Rahman passes away
Veteran filmmaker Shafiqur Rahman has passed away at the age of 70 after suffering from a massive stroke.
The renowned director breathed his last around 9.30 pm yesterday at a local hospital in the capital.
Happy Akhter, a family member of Shafiqur Rahman, confirmed the news to The Daily Star.
"Shafiqur Rahman was undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in Dhanmondi after suffering from a massive stroke on 15 August," the family member stated.
Shafiqur Rahman worked as a director for Nayak Raj Razzak's movies "Raja Mistri" and "Dhaka 86." The noted filmmaker also worked as a long-time assistant director for the legendary actor.
Nayak Raj Razzak's son Shomrat told The Daily Star fond memories about the "Dhaka 86" director.
"I have grown up watching Shafiq uncle's work. He was an extremely humble person and was really down to earth. He has worked with my father for many years," Shomrat said.
Actor Tariq Anam Khan also talked about the filmmaker to The Daily Star, 'I knew Shafiqur Rahman through Animesh Aich. He was a wonderful person who has left behind a trail of beautiful movies".
Actress Rozina also became emotional upon hearing the news of the director's demise.
"'I heard the news of Shafiqur Rahman Bhai's death a while ago. I am still in a state of shock. I am really happy that I got to act under his directorial in the movie "Raja Mistri"
The renowned director is survived by his son and a daughter.
