‘I came back from the edge of death because of people’s love’
Noted actor and freedom fighter Sohel Rana has returned home after being on life support for many days. He spoke to The Daily Star recently about his health, and more.
You have returned home after a long battle with health issues. How are you feeling now?
I would not be here without the blessings of the Almighty. He has been kind to me. My health condition was truly complicated, as I was put on life support. My well-wishers prayed for me. The people of this country love me very much. I came back from the edge of death because of their love. I have gotten to know life anew. Death is inescapable. I have lost a lot of friends, who were my age. I used to think that I have plenty of time on my hands before I go, but now, I think my time here is slowly running out.
How are you spending time at home?
I am struggling with certain movements. So, I am staying at home quietly, and following all the advice from my doctors. I am still very weak physically. I am just trying to have faith in the Almighty.
At this point in your life, do you have any unfulfilled wishes?
Besides being an actor, I have also fought for my country in the Liberation War. I do not know for how long I will live, but not receiving the Independence Award is one of my unfulfilled wishes. That being said, I have no regrets, as far as my acting career is concerned. I have won a lifetime achievement award for it. The people of this country have showered me with immense love.
The Film Artistes' Association elections have been rather controversial this year. How do you feel about that?
I kept up with the elections through newspapers and television. I am not sure where they have brought the dignity of our industry, to be honest. I want to live with love and respect throughout my life. But the people in my industry have been lying for a position or chair. There is no point in slinging mud at each other just for elections. I request all those who are involved to accept the legal decision. We have to protect the dignity of our industry.
