I’ve never seen a flood like that in New York: Monalisa
Monalisa once ruled Bangladesh's television screens, becoming a household name in the industry. The renowned actress has been living in the USA for the past 10 years.
The actress, even though not as regular on TV now, still features in occasional roles when she comes to the country.
She talks to The Daily Star about her current plans.
Many states in the US has been devastated by tornado Ida. How is the situation in New York, where you live?
The situation is horrific, to be honest. There has been intense flooding due to the tornado, and I have never seen a flood like this in New York before. I really miss my country at a time like this. I am especially missing my mother.
Are you stuck at your residence at the moment?
Pretty much so, I can't get out due to the flooding. I live on the 14th floor of my building, and I can see the disaster that is going on. I feel really bad for the people outside, who are struggling.
When will you return to the country?
I want to come back soon. To be honest, even though I live in the USA, my heart is in Bangladesh. The pandemic is currently a roadblock for me, I will return when things settle down a little.
You began your career as a model, but became a household name through television. Do you miss standing in front of the camera?
I miss it a lot. I miss my colleagues as well – the times we spent shooting and chatting in-between breaks is invaluable to me. We were a family, and I'd love to do it all over again.
