‘Rickshaw Girl’ wins top prize at Germany’s SCHLINGEL Int’l Film Festival

Amitabh Reza Chowdhury directorial "Rickshaw Girl" has won the SLM Top Award at the 26th SCHLINGEL Int'l Film Festival, held in Germany.

This award is the top prize at the prestigious festival, which has been highlighting elect films directed towards children and teens since 1996.

This year, 77 feature films and 116 short films competed in the festival, of which "Rickshaw Girl" was nominated in the International Segment.

Telling the story of a battle-hardened female rickshaw puller Naima, "Rickshaw Girl" features Novera Rahman as the lead. Momena Chowdhury, Novera's real life mother, portray's Naima's mother in the film, which also features the likes of Allen Shuvro, Champa and Naresh Bhuiyan.

The film had previously been selected and earned praise in Mill Valley Film Festival in the USA, and Durbal International Film Festival.

Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, who recently returned from the USA after a short 7-day trip promoting the film, said that he was elated that it was getting accolades all over the world.
