Veteran Bengali actress Madhabi Mukherjee hospitalised
Noted Bengali actress Madhabi Mukherjee was admitted to a hospital in south Kolkata today with old age-related ailments.
A statement issued by Woodland Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment, said the 80-year-old actress has a history of "persistent anaemia and uncontrolled diabetes" and medical tests will be conducted to determine the cause of her chronic complaints, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital said.
"Her vitals health parametres are stable. A team of doctors is keeping a close watch on her health status," it said.
One of the favourite actresses of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, Madhabi Mukherjee has acted in some of his films, including "Charulata", "Mahanagar" and "Kapurush".
One of Madhabi's notable works is her role in Ritwik Ghatak's Subarnarekha.
She acted opposite Uttarm Kumar, Soumitra Chatterjee and won the National Film Award for 'best actress' for her performance in "Dibratrir Kabya".
Among her well-known films are Mrinal Sen's "Baishey Shravan".
